AgriFiber Unveils Soluble Fiber Portfolio at IFT Trade Show

CHICAGO, Ill. (June 28, 2022) – AgriFiberSolutions’ new soluble fiber ingredients are available to help plant-based brands create healthier, more sustainable products – and they’re in the spotlight at this year’s IFT FIRST food innovation expo in Chicago July 11-13.

“They’re functional in formulation, and they’re clinically validated for prebiotic effect,” AgriFiber CEO Jonathan Kahn said. “We’re confident that soluble fiber is the key to better plant-based formulation.”

At booth #S0330, show attendees can taste a menu of 100% plant-based product concepts fortified with upcycled soluble corn and oat fiber ingredients. These ingredients allow plant-based cheeses and milks to deliver textures and taste experiences that align with the expectations that dairy-based applications have set. The samples include:

  • Plant-based cream cheese bites
  • Spiced chocolate coffee beverages

“IFT is our chance to meet the innovative, passionate formulators and brands who are really pushing the envelope in how to think about food and nutrition,” Kahn said. “We couldn’t be more excited to be back in person this year to start dreaming up the next generation of high fiber applications.”

Many fiber ingredients struggle with solubility, color, and texture – all challenges thatAgriFiber can now help solve via its soluble fiber portfolio. AgriFiber’s soluble corn and oat fiber ingredients have benefits across several markets, including alternative dairy, bars, and beverages.

In extruded bars, AgriFiber’s soluble corn fiber (SFC) can be used as a binding agent, making it a clean label alternative to hydrocolloids like xanthan gum. Likewise, soluble oat fiber (SFO) is a great option to fortify baked bars. As it does not have a viscosity impact, it helps maintain texture and mouthfeel in both bar and beverage applications.

“So many plant-based options are hitting the market, and they’re helping brands expand their portfolios for this rapidly growing audience,” Kahn said. “Soluble fiber is a perfect complement to these applications, as more and more consumers are learning how critical dietary fiber is to their diet. And even beyond its essential nutrition impact, soluble fiber has so many functional benefits that will help plant-based formulators overcome many of the challenges they face, like binding and texture.”

AgriFiber upcycles fiber from the U.S. agricultural system and offers a nutrition source that’s better for the environment. AgriFiber also has a comprehensive insoluble fiber portfolio, consisting of Multi-functional Corn Brand Fiber (MFC) and Oat HullFiber (MFO), which are great options for meat alternatives, sauces, bakery applications, and more.

“Everywhere you look – be it the grocery store, online, in nutrition circles, and beyond – one thing is evident: the plant-based trend is here to stay,” Kahn said. “For health reasons, for sustainability reasons, and more, both consumers and the industry are on board with this movement. We encourage any brands looking to enter this space or struggling with fortification or formulation to visit our booth or get in touch with our team.”
